Most of the Gulf remains very conservative and staunchly opposed to much of what Dubai markets itself as.
Dubai is a unique, live experiment of what the Gulf could be like but it is not representative of the area at all. Most of the Gulf remains very conservative and staunchly opposed to much of what Dubai markets itself as. In other words, they don’t mind going over there to have fun, they just don’t want what Dubai offers to be in their backyard.
...there is a real and tangible negativity when it comes to telling people that you live in Doha.
What’s wrong with not being able to get a hold of absolutely every last thing you had at home? Isn’t that part of the reason that you chose to become an expat? Don’t you want to try new things and experience another way of life?
There are expats who go to a new place expecting it to be a microcosm of home and that’s fine, but if that’s what you want you should really think about moving to the Costa del Sol.
Otherwise, everywhere will have its ups and downs, good days and bad da[/i]ys.[/i]
There is so much to be thankful for in our life here that we forget this is not the norm in most of the world.
Where else can you leave your garage doors open, your front door unlocked and your kids’ toys all over the place and know that everything will still be there in the morning?
Who would you rather be friends with?
If Doha and Dubai was people...What would they be like?
Where Dubai is all about looks and giving it “tallest, largest, biggest…” some prefer that their inherent value is not on show for all to see.
Doha is no cheap date. You have to come here and be invested in this city before it will reveal its treasures to you. She will demand that you give her your best before she will smile upon you. Dubai has gotten too big too soon. No one can deny that and in that process it has become a series of distractions all culminating into one somewhat vacuous experience.
Dubai is all about the external image. She may be the prettiest girl, but she’s not necessarily the smartest. You might want to date her for a while but you don’t want to settle down and grow old with her. She’s great to look at but after a while you think, OMG she is so boring!
She’s great to look at but after a while you think, OMG she is so boring!
She wants to go out every night and you will eventually just want to stay in. She wants to know what car you drive, how much you make and where you live. She is the girl in the killer outfit and the 6in Jimmy Choos. She is not a natural blonde.
If Dubai is the supermodel, well Doha then, is the girl next door. You can be her neighbor for years before you realize just how great she is. She prefers the natural look and isn’t afraid of the qualities that make her uniquely Arab. She wants to know what your hobbies are, where you went to school and how many brothers and sisters you have. She’s smart and wants to prove herself. You just have to give her a chance.
If Doha is considered by some to be Dubai’s ugly sister…well I’ll tell you one thing I know for sure…at least she has a great personality. Oh, and she’s a brunette.
